WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE TO PREPARE/IS ANY PREPARATION NEEDED?

A topical anesthetic is used to help reduce the discomfort. This can be pick up at our spa prior and apply before coming in or you can arrive one hour before your treatment time and it will be applied in the office.

HOW MUCH DISCOMFORT WILL I EXPERIENCE DURING AND AFTER? WILL THE AESTHETICIAN GIVE ME ANY TYPE OF ANESTHETIC?

There will be some discomfort and this will depend on your sensitivity level. Yes, a topical anesthetic is used 20 minutes prior with the help of Infrared LED light therapy in order to reduce the discomfort.

HOW QUICK IS THE RECOVERY TIME? HOW MUCH DOWNTIME IS NEEDED AFTER?

Generally, patients are able to return to their schedules with almost zero downtime. Skin may be red for 12 to 24 hours, depending on your sensitivity.

HOW SOON WILL I BE ABLE TO RETURN TO WORK? WILL I NEED TO GO DIRECTLY HOME AFTERWARDS TO RECOVER? WILL PEOPLE BE ABLE TO TELL I HAD SOMETHING DONE?

You can return to work day-of if you need, and can apply makeup within 90 minutes of procedure. Ideally, however, we recommend leaving your skin bare for the rest of the day of the procedure.

My journey on De-Pigmentation treatment!

If you are someone who is constantly battling hyperpigmentation or melasma the Renu21 Depigmentation Peel might be the answer for you. I started hearing about this peel during the stay at home order and was certified and trained on the treatment earlier this year. I first got curious and started looking for before and afters, reading about aesthetician experiences as well as medical provider experiences. Then the hunt to add this to the practice took some time.

Well ladies and gentleman, I HAVE FOUND IT! Plus, those of you that know me well, know that I had to try it for myself first before I added it to our menu of services. Here is some information on my first hand experience, which should help you understand what sort of commitment you are signing up for with this peel.

What is the Renu21 Depigmentation system?

It is a 4 part system with a unique combination of more than 51 depigmenting ingredients to stop the entire process of hyperpigmentation formation by removing the accumulation of melanin and blocking the formation of new spots. More than 1 million people have used this system. It was developed in Spain and is safe for all skin types, which is incredible. It contains a mixture of many powerful pigment fighting acids, including azelaic acid, kojic acid, phytic acid, ascorbic acid, and retinoic acid make this peel ideal for depigmenting your skin at a scientific level.

Here are the 4 Phases:

Phase I: Intensive Depigmentation: This occurs in the office with me (Susan). We will degrease your clean skin and then apply the Phase 1 peanut butter type mask. This will be left on your skin anywhere from 8-12 HOURS!

Phase II: Continuous Depigmentation: This is part of your at-home for 30 days. You will be provided in the office with your home kit to start using 48 hours post taking off the Phase 1 mask. You will apply Phase 2 cream and Melan Recovery 2 times d day & Melan SPF+130 in the morning.

Phase III: Hyperpigmentation Regulation: For the next 2 months, you will apply Phase 2 cream AM and PM with Melan Recovery and in the AM Melan 130+SPF. Apply more Melan 130+ SPF if you anticipate mid-day sun exposure.

Phase IV: Reappearance Control: This continues for 3 months, and you will use Melan 130+ SPF in AM and mid-day. Then Cosmelan 2 at night only.

What does the Depigmentation feel like?

I am going to be incredibly real with you. This is not for the faint of heart. The peel on for 10 hours was nothing. Then I washed it off and thought this is a walk in the park. MY, OH MY was I WRONG! I will include photos and description of my experience.

The BEFORE

Day 0: Immediately after rinsing off phase 1 mask. Felt 100% fine. No exercise.

Day 1: Woke up red and felt like a sunburn. Applied Melan recovery that day. No exercise.

Day 2: Woke up swollen, felt like I had hives brewing. Used Melan Recovery. No exercise. Was supposed to start Cosmelan 2 now, but held off because my skin texture felt like hives and felt I needed another day. My eyes were very itchy.

Day 3: Holy mother of itching and swelling. Woke up overnight because the itching was so bad and my eyes itched the most. Sunburn feeling was gone. Redness was improving. Took a benadryl to sleep at night.

Day 4: PEELING! Itching and redness improved and started Phase II today.

Day 5-30: Flaking, peeling and redness continued. Exercise and any alcohol made my face flush and burn. The flaking is non-stop. I read that the redness continue depends on resiliency of your skin. I use squalane oil to applied onto my skin to Sooth and reduce the redness.

Day 35: I took some after photos and thought to myself, “holy smokes this was worth the trouble.” I plan to continue Phase 3 until I am out of the product, then resume my old skincare regimen. I am a believer.

How does Depigmentation work?

The principle of this treatment is to inhibit tyrosinase, a key enzyme in the formation of melanin, the substance in our skin responsible for producing pigment and reduces and blending of melanin patches on the face (melasma and chloasma).

Am I suitable for this treatment?

Unlike some other skin lightening treatment Dermamelan and Cosmelan are suitable for all skin types. If you suffer from pigmentation this could be a solution for you. Our Aesthetician will determine if you are a fit for the treatment.

Does it hurt?

No the treatments are totally pain free.

How long does it take?

Depending on skin type treatment length varies. Skin condition can improve within a week. In dark skin (fototype IV and V) marks vanish over eight to 10 days. In lighter skins it can take up to 21 days.

Is there any downtime/recovery time?

Dermamelan and Cosmelan are the safest lightening therapies available on the market with no significant side effects, only slight redness and flaking/skin peeling several days after the treatment.

What kind of results can I expect?

you will see The skin becomes bright, rejuvenated and abnormal pigmentation starts to fade, with results starting to show in just 10 to 14 days. The treatment can help reduce pigmentation marks by up to 95% and skin looks rejuvenated. Pigmentation patches fade and skin takes on an even, glowing appearance. Skin looks more refined and looks smooth and healthy.

Who is suitable for the treatment?

Anyone who has melasma that has tried everything and has not responded to standard treatments.

Who is not suitable for the treatment?

-You should not have the treatment if you will continue to have excessive sun exposure.
-You are not suitable if you have very thin sensitive skin.
-You have had any type of recent facial surgical procedure – you will have to wait up to 6 months until all the scars have healed.
-You have to wait 14 days prior to and after Botox and or Dermal Fillers.
-You are Pregnant or Breastfeeding.
-You Have to wait 2 weeks after waxing your face or after use of depilatory creams
-You Have to wait 4 weeks after Laser Hair Removal treatment.
-You have to stop using Glycolic acid and Retin A one week before the peel.
-You cannot have a glycolic peel one week before the treatment.
-Avoid using self-tanners, scrubs or exfoliating agents 48 hours before treatment – you have to wait one week after a Microdermabrasion treatment.
-You cannot have the treatment if you are allergic to mushrooms, as the peel contains kojic acid.

Consultation procedure

-Prior to the treatment, you must first undergo a consultation where details about your medical history are obtained. This will confirm your suitability for the treatment.
-A thorough Skin Analysis is carried out to find out what type of pigmentation you have. We will then go through the history of the pigmentation. This will allow us to establish a correct protocol for you.
-The Therapist will go through the treatment procedure in detail, all side effects including how to deal with the temporary side effects and end results including home care & products.

What steps are involved in the treatment?

-The skin is cleansed with an Ultra Mild Cleanser.
A degreasing solution is applied to aid ingredient penetration.
-The In clinic Mask is applied, it is left to dry for 15 minutes.
-You are sent home with the Mask on – The Mask has to be left on the skin for 8-12 hours depending on your skin type. The Therapist will give you the exact time you will need to remove the Mask.
-Normally we conduct these treatments in the Morning, so the Mask can be washed off by evening time.
After the correct time period, you will need to wash the Mask off with cold water and use the homecare products which will be included in your treatment price.
The following day after the peel, the Therapist will check your progress and ensure you have not experienced any adverse side effects.
-We will check your progress and maintenance plan regularly.

How long does the treatment take?

A typical treatment session is approximately 60 minutes.

How does the treatment feel?

The application of the Mask is completely painless.
However when the skin starts to peel, it’s normal to feel a mild burning sensation with some itching and sensitivity. This can last a few weeks.

What can I expect from the treatment?

-Remember we cannot cure Melasma as it is mainly hormonal, we are simply treating and managing the skin condition.
-There’s a possibility that after you peel the Melasma can return. The peel paralyses the melanin production for a long period of time. However, after the peel, the enzyme recovers its activity producing new melanin, particularly if there is sun exposure. Due to this the homecare cream must be used to maintain the results. The home care needs to be used for 9 months after treatment to inhibit melanin production.
-Despite all of this we can confirm that Depigmentation Melasma peel seems to be the only effective treatment for Melasma and we have treated hundreds of clients with life changing results.

How many treatments are required?

Normally one treatment with homecare maintenance cream is enough to achieve good results.
However in cases of deep pigmentation the treatment may need to be repeated, although after the first treatment the pigmentation will be much lighter.

Are there any possible side effects/Downtime?

-There is definitely one week’s worth of downtime with this peel where we would advise to take a week off work and not book any special occasions.
-The Temporary side effects include drastic skin peeling, redness, sunburn like feeling, itching and soreness.
-While the skin is peeling you must not pick or pull the dead skin and use the aftercare products to hydrate the skin.
-Your skin will peel a lot in the first week – you can peel after the first week but it will not be as noticeable.
-The peel has a high safety margin and can be safely used on dark skin types.
-Adverse Reactions to the Peels are rare but can include peeling, redness, scabbing, infection, recurrence of cold sores and prolonged sensitivity to the sun.

Is there any Aftercare/Homecare?

-It is essential to follow a homecare routine. All your homecare products which include a cleanser, maintenance cream, moisturiser and sun protection are included in the price of the peel.
-Your Therapist will advise you exactly how to use these products and you need to fallow this protocol for the required time.
-The peel paralyses the melanin production for a long period of time. However, after the peel, the enzyme recovers its activity producing new melanin, particularly if there is sun exposure. Due to this the homecare cream must be used to maintain the results.
-You will need to ensure that you use the maintenance cream every day according to the therapist instructions. You will need to ensure that you keep your skin well moisturised with the Hydra Factor K cream and most importantly that you apply spf 50 Sun Protection cream every day.
-You will be given an Aftercare Advice sheet which you will need to follow strictly.

Pre and Post Cosmelan Depigmentation Instructions Pre Cosmelan Depigmentation Treatment:

DO avoid any chemical peel or laser procedures 14 days prior to treatment with Cosmelan.
Refrain from waxing or the use of other depilatory products for 7 days prior to treatment.
Post Cosmelan Depigmentation Treatment:
Always avoid sun exposure as much as possible.
Do NOT get another treatment or procedure (including peels, facials, or microdermabrasion)
on the treated area for 30 days following.
While maintaining on Cosmelan 2, discontinue its use for 5 days prior to waxing, and do not restart treatment until 3 days after waxing. Threading can be done normally.

Day 1

Wash off mask at designated time given by provider with gentle soap and water.
Apply Hydravital Factor K cream to treatment area overnight.

Day 2

Apply Hydravital Factor K cream.
Then apply sunscreen during the day.

Day 3-30

Start Cosmelan 2, apply in morning and evening.
Apply Hydravital Factor K cream 15 minutes after Cosmelan 2.
Apply sunscreen last (in the morning).
Schedule your 1 month follow up treatment to be done in office.

Month 2-6

Apply Cosmelan 2 once a day in the evening.

What Is The Skin Science Behind BB Glow?

There are two types of aging: intrinsic and extrinsic.

Intrinsic aging is determined by genetics. Extrinsic aging is determined by external factors, such as sun exposure and lifestyle. The majority of aging is extrinsic. Factors that contribute to extrinsic aging include poor nutrition, drinking, smoking, medications and poor skin care regimen.

Skin needling is an effective way to treat extrinsic skin aging by providing skin rejuvenation. Micro injuries caused by needling stimulate wound healing with release of various growth factors, proliferation of fibroblasts and laying down of intercellular matrix.

It has been documented that skin treated with four microneedling sessions, one month apart, can increase collagen and elastin deposition by 400% with a thickened stratum spinosum. What is Microneedling?

A form of Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT), CIT creates controlled injuries underneath the skin’s surface. The injury induces the body to respond through the formation of new tissue. In addition to inducing collagen, the channels made from the micro-needles allow topical gels and creams to be absorbed more effectively through the top layer of skin. Most cases need four-to-six treatments, each spaced at two-to-six week intervals. You may require a series of sessions to obtain your desired outcome.

Microneedling causes your skin to plumpen and thicken, ultimately reducing the appearance of scars, fine lines and other skin texture changes.

Who is a good candidate for Microneedling?

Any patient with:

Fine lines or moderate wrinkles, uneven texture of the skin
Moderate skin laxity (looseness)
Diminished texture, tone, color, no ‘glow’
Atrophic (depressed) acne scars
Stretch marks
Traumatic scars
Sun damage/Hyperpigmentation

Who is NOT a good candidate for Microneedling?

What happens during the procedure?

Our Soa use the Merrylaz Microneedling System, which allows for controlled induction of the skin’s self-repair mechanism by creating micro “injuries,” which trigger new collagen synthesis. The procedure is performed in a safe and precise manner with the use of the sterile microneedle cartridge and Bio-Sheath for single use only.

The microneedling procedure is normally completed within 60-90 minutes, depending on the required treatment and anatomical site.

Are there side effects to microneedling?

After the procedure, the skin will be red and flushed in appearance in a similar way to a moderate sunburn. You may also experience skin tightness and mild sensitivity to touch on the area being treated. The skin’s redness will diminish greatly after a few hours following the treatment. Within 24 hours, the surface of the skin typically appears and feels more normal. After three days, the skin is often healed and your normal appearance fully restored. For the first three days, it is important to avoid sun exposure and sweaty activity.

Numbing cream is applied prior to the microneedling treatment to minimize any pain that is felt during the procedure. Patients typically find it to be quite tolerable.

Is there downtime required to recover from the procedure? What is the aftercare?

Expect redness or even pinpoints of bleeding on days one-three after the procedure. By day two, most patients look like they have a sunburn and they may be dry. The skin is usually fully recovered by day four after the procedure.

The skincare regimen noted below will help soothe the skin:

If you have any signs or symptoms of a cold sore, please call ahead of time so that we can prescribe you an antiviral medication.
Avoid sweaty gym workouts/exercise, hospital settings where you might be exposed to an infection, dirty jobs (like cleaning the bathroom, etc.) for three days after the procedure.
No mineral sunscreen or makeup (containing Zinc or Titanium) for two days after the procedure, try to avoid the sun during this time and use a hat instead of SPF.
No vitamin C serum or retinoids for four days after the procedure.
No glycolic acid for four days after the procedure.
Men: Avoid shaving for three-four days after the procedure (you may start shaving when your skin does not feel irritated anymore).

Additional skincare tips after microneedling:

Wash with a gentle cleanser such as Eminence Organic Calm Skin Cleanser
Apply Hyaluronic Acid Serum every two-three hours for the remainder of the first day and continue through the next two days.

We felt that it is important to let you know that your health and safety is our number one priority, especially with the Coronavirus. We are following the safety protocol and best practices recommendation by the World Health Organization (WHO) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

We have and will continue to adhere to the following:

Sanitizing: our spa is sanitizing all surfaces that clients touch (door knobs, Chairs, tables, counters top and products) with increased frequency using EPA approved disinfectant products that are qualified to use against the coronavirus. Hand sanitizers are available at the front desk, restrooms, and in between servicing stations.

Handwashing: We are strictly enforcing our handwashing policy including requiring our employees to wash their hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. We require our employees to wash their hands after using the restroom, touching his/her face, and before doing any clients services. We ensure that our soap dispensers are filled and paper towels are available at all times.

Gloves and masks: Our employees wear gloves and masks at all times when servicing clients.

HOW I BECAME A LASH EXTENSION ADDICT

Eyelash extensions are the beauty trend that’s been picking up so lets see what all the fuss is about?

The concept of eyelash extensions is pretty amazing when you consider that you’ll no longer have to apply mascara, because your lashes will supposedly look perfectly full and lengthy, who doesn’t want that perfect lash look without much effort? I say “Yes” count me in!

I opted going with someone who has experienced in the lash extension volume rather than just the classic and trusted my eyes to eyelash artist Nellie. During the initial consultation, she discussed all the different lash options. So many choices to pick from lash material, length, curl and shape. Material options included mink, silk, fox and synthetic versions of each of those. Length varied from 7mm to 15mm, and I could choose between a dramatic “C” curl or a straighter “J” curl, or could even go up to D/CC curl. The shape of the extensions ranged from a “natural” look to a more glamorous cat-eye arrangement, but at the end of the day, I let the specialist tells me what would look best, and for my eyes, C-curl is the most I can have. Oh well, I thought I would just give it shot.

The application process was pretty relaxing. All I had to do was lie down and close my eyes while the Nellie applied each individual lash, one-by-one. You could barely feel anything at all during this. I even fell asleep at one point. I have heard that the glue can burn sensitive eye, but surprising I was fine. So an hour and a half went by voila!

Nellie handed me the handheld mirror Oh La La Mademoiselle! In that instant, I became a lash-extension addict! Fortunately, I was running late so Nellie couldn't take my before and after pictures. However, I'm posting picture of Nellie's clients so you can see why I became a lash-extension addict.

Why am I thinking about it?

Because a Jan Marini Chemical peels can improve the skin's appearance. In this treatment, a chemical solution is applied to the skin, which makes it "blister" and eventually peel off. When I go through the process, my new skin is much lighter, smoother and younger.
Chemical peels can be done on the face, neck, or hands, but I’ve only had it done on my face thus far. Some of the things I’ve noticed after a Chemical Peels are:
• Reduction of fine lines under my eyes and mouth which are wrinkles caused by sun damage and aging.
• Improve the appearance of mild scars from my younger year of acne
• Reduced some of the acne on the side of my cheeks
• Some age spots, freckles, and dark patches are lightened
• The look and feel of skin is much smoother
• Areas of sun damage also looks much better!
After a chemical peel, my skin is usually temporarily more sensitive to the sun, that is also the main reason why we wait until the winter for Chemical peels. I’m very cautious about my sun screen and always making sure that it’s "broad-spectrum" on the label, meaning that it’s protecting me against the sun's UVA and UVB rays. Also, it needs to be a physical sunscreen and be above SPF 30. I tried hard to limit my time in the sun, especially between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., and wear a wide-brimmed hat.
So for those of you who is also thinking about Chemical Peel this winter, make sure you:
Tell your Esthetician if you have any history of scarring, cold sores that keep coming back, or facial X-rays.
Before you get a chemical peel, your Esthetician may ask you to stop taking certain drugs and prepare your skin by using other medications, such as Retin-A, Renova, or glycolic acid.
Work with your Esthetician to determine the depth of your peel. This decision depends upon the condition of your skin and your goals for treatment.

How Chemical Peels Are Done?

The Esthetician who does your peel will first clean your skin thoroughly. Then he or she will apply one or more chemical solutions -- such as glycolic acid, trichloroacetic acid, salicylic acid, lactic acid, or carbolic acid (depending on the Jan Marini Peels package that you choose) -- to small areas of your skin. That creates a controlled wound, letting new skin take its place.
During a chemical peel, most people feel a burning sensation that lasts about five to ten minutes, followed by a stinging sensation. Putting cool compresses on the skin may ease that stinging. You may need pain medication during or after a deeper peel.
What To Expect After the Chemical Peel?
Depending upon the type of Jan Marini chemical peel, a reaction similar to sunburn occurs following the procedure. Peeling usually involves redness followed by scaling that ends within three to seven days. Mild peels may be repeated at one to four-week intervals until you get the look you're after.
Medium-depth and deep peeling may result in swelling as well as blisters that may break, crust, turn brown, and peel off over a period of seven to 14 days. Medium-depth peels may be repeated in six to 12 months, if necessary.
You'll need to avoid the sun for several months after a chemical peel since your new skin will be fragile, so wear you HATS at all time!!!
Possible Complications? What you need to know?
Some skin types are more likely to develop a temporary or permanent color change in the skin after a chemical peel. Taking birth control pills, subsequent pregnancy, or a family history of brownish discoloration on the face may make that more likely.
There is a low risk of scarring in certain areas of the face. Some people may be more likely to scar. If scarring does happen, it can usually be treated with good results.
For people with a history of herpes outbreaks, there is a small risk of reactivating cold sores.

WHY DO I NEED A SKIN CARE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM?

So my skin property is EXTREMELY oily, and needed help badly to balance my skin because usually by mid-day, I have so much oil that one can literally fry eggs on my face. Yup, that is how bad it was so I decided to commit to some sort of a skin care regimen for at least three month (that's normally the time frame that result can be seen... but to be honest, I'm usually the type that jumps from product to product & what's the latest trend so this can be difficult for me).

I splurged on a 5-steps Jan Marini skin care management system for $300. I know it sounds like a lot, but Jan Marini made their skin care system dummy proof by labeling each steps clearly for me so $300 for 5 items isn't too bad, comparing to Revive or LaMer.

The first step in the system, was the Bioglycolic cleanser, which gently cleans and exfoliate the skin by applying directly into dry skin, and neutralizes it by washing off with water. Now let's face it glycolic acid is great because it has the smallest molecule out of all of that AHA’s, and this has reduced my skepticism on the product.

Next step is Rejuvenation with C-Esta Serum. The citrus smell of this serum is wonderful plus Vitamin C helps lift, firm and tighten the appearance of the facial contours. In addition to Vitamin C, this antioxidant serum features DMAE for powerful free-radical protection, so that's a definitely plus. I sure need all the help I can get.

Then come Resurfacing, which is step number three and it's called Bioclear Lotion. It's quickly absorbed serum with powerful combination of glycolic, salicylic and azelaic acid. It provides a broad-range of benefits for dramatically smoother, clearer, more luminous looking skin. This will definitely help my adult acne situation and also acts as a primer for my makeup foundation. I no longer need to use a separate primer.

Step 4 is hydrating the skin with Transformation Face cream. Who doesn't need more growth factor, peptide and antioxidant solution in their skin? This ultimate in advanced hydrators is used to reduce the appearance of aging and damaged skin. Wrinkles be GONE!

Using a variable-level vacuum and an assortment of treatment tips, the DermaSweep wand gently lifts the skin against the appropriate treatment tip, removing the top most layer of skin. Your skin is left smoother while the vacuum action of the wand stimulates blood flow and cleans pores. Is the treatment painful?

How long does the treatment take?
Treatments typically take 30-60 minutes, but it depends upon the specific skin condition treated and the professional opinion of your provider.

What will my skin look like after treatment?
Your skin will have a warm, pinkish glow that can last up to 30 minutes. Your post treatment care is simple and easy, and will be explained by your Renu21 Esthetician.

How long will it take before I see results?

Typically, you will see results after the first treatment. Lasting and more significant results will occur after 3 to 6 treatments spaced 10 days to 2 weeks apart, supported by a daily post treatment routine. We recommend the Jan Marini skin care management system as your home care regimen.

What is the blue light therapy and acne facial treatment Rebu21 organic facial & nails spa?

Blue light therapy refers to non-laser sources of light that help in preventing papules and pustules, the everyday “pimples” that many people get that are inflamed and red. When blue light shines on the skin, it penetrates through various skin layers and may help kill some acne bacteria or reduce some of the inflammation or excess sebum (skin oil) production that are characteristic of acne. Benefits of light therapy include low side effects and affordability.

At Renu21 Organic Facial Spa, we use the blue light therapy in conjunction with our acne facial treatment for optimal result. The acne facial treatment consists of cleansing and enzyme exfoliation, activated by aromatherapy steam. When the skin is softened,a deep manual extractions carefully given and continued with an Antibacterial and anti-inflammation process using the high frequency machine for the extracted skin. Then a thick layer of acne-cooling mask is placed on the facial surface and cold therapy massage is used to reduce redness of the extracted skin. Finally enriched moisturizer and SPF 33 Antioxidant Sunscreen is applied to complete the facial service. When it comes to getting the best results from your skin care products for oily, blemished, problem, acne-prone skin, it’s so important to use and avoid certain skin care ingredients.

PROBLEM, BLEMISHED, ACNE-PRONE SKIN

Use:

– Salicylic Acid. This is an antiseptic exfoliator that offers anti-inflammatory benefits for Soothing acne condition - Recommendation ‘Jan Marini Biglycolic cleanser)

– Tea Tree Oil. This offers disinfectant properties to destroy acne-causing bacteria and keep pores clean.
(Recommendation eminence probiotic cleanser)

– Azaleic Acid - kills P-acne bacteria and reduces the number of comedones or pore blockage (recommendation Jan Marini bioclear lotion/cream or Eminence target acne spot treatment)

Avoid:

– SD Alcohol 40, Denatured Alcohol, Ethanol and Isopropyl Alcohol. These are commonly found in toners and should be avoided. Exception: They can be beneficial when used in acne spot treatments.

– Sodium or Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate. Commonly found in cleansing gels and are extremely dehydrating to the skin.

– Mineral Oil. This ingredient can have a pore-clogging effect on the skin.

– Petrolatum. This ingredient can have a pore-clogging effect on the skin.

– Isopropyl Myristate and Isopropyl Palmitate. This ingredient may encourage clogged pores.

– Apricot kernels. These are naturally-made particles found in facial scrubs that can scratch and irritate the skin, causing the spread of bacteria.
